The village of Annascaul, located on the N86 approximately 15miles from Dingle, is known across the world as the birthplace of the Antarctic explorer Tom Crean, who was part of Robert Scott's ill-fated attempts to reach the South Pole and Ernest Shackleton's epic open boat journey from Elephant Island to South Georgia. A statue of Crean has been erected in the village opposite the South Pole Inn, the pub he established upon his return, where you can still enjoy a pint! Annascaul is a quaint village, set in stunning surrounds with immense mountain ranges and stunning countryside.
